If you've ever explored the "Nursery" tab on our website, you may remember mention of a "Secret Garden & Orchid House" that was in the works. We haven't forgotten about it, in fact we are very excited spill the beans- Hardeman's Secret Gardens and Orchid House is shaping up to be a one-of-a-kind place in Southewest, Florida, and it is officially open for business! Hardeman's Secret Garden is a new premium wedding venue and event space right here in Tampa, Florida. Countless hours of thought, design, and construction went into making the dream of Jeff Hardeman himself, come true. The entire space is dripping with elegance, culture, and exquisite detail. Calling it beautiful is an understatement. Hardeman's Secret Garden's main attraction is an educational, sensory garden with a 6200 sq. ft. of active orchid house. This is surrounded by tranquil expansive gardens featuring oriental, tropical, and eclectic design. You'll have to see it to believe it. I encourage you to head over to Hardeman's Secret Garden's new website, www.Hardemanssecretgarden.com, to read all about it. Our April Showers brought May flowers this year. And our recent showers are bringing some, let me guess, drainage issues? Pests? Plant diseases? And probably many other common yard issues. Thanks, Mother Nature. Rain is good, but it can sometimes remind us of the items on our Summer to-do list. Like we need that, am I right? 🤦🏼♀️
Unfortunately, landscape issues don’t like to be ignored. Fortunately for you, we don’t like to ignore them. We have seen it a million times: a drainage issue left unresolved can lead to dead plants, debris and bacteria in pools, loss of mulch or soil, or even a failed retaining wall. Pests or diseases can make your plants look tired and sickly, eventually stunting their growth and leaving them for dead. But not to worry, that is why we have expert designers, builders, treaters, and fixers on staff to solve any issue you might encounter in your yard- environment related, or otherwise. We have experience with Southwest Florida’s unique environmental challenges and are equipped with the knowledge and tools to tackle any problem, big or small. Bring it on, Mother Nature, bring it on. Hardeman is ready for you. Another perfectly legitimate problem is just simply wanting your yard to look nicer. No shame in that, we want our yards to be nice too, it’s not just you. Having a space outdoors that you actually enjoy is almost priceless. And if you're living in such a lovely state, why wouldn't you? It’s been proven that spending time outdoors can lower stress. And arriving home to see a beautiful front yard, well, that will make anyone happy at the end of the day. Maybe you have a yard that you don’t think has the potential to be a place you enjoy. Well, we accept that challenge. Our creative designers have come up with some crazy cool ideas to solve a variety of outdoor problems. In fact landscape design is all about solving functional problems in an aesthetic way. Fixing your problems is our profession. At least your yard problems, that is. Speaking of aesthetic ways, take a look at our recent work with this lovely outdoor space. Enjoyable, wouldn't you agree? Landscaping is cool! Like, really cool. And we don’t just mean visually or socially cool, plants actually lower the temperature around us! With Summer right around the corner, we found it fitting to mention this particular benefit of landscaping. 😉 Of course, designed and maintained landscapes are beautiful, but they offer us so much more than just beauty. You’re in Florida, so we would bet money you’ve walked barefoot outside in the Summer. Given the choice of grass, sand, or asphalt to walk on, you would walk on the grass. Obviously, right? It won’t burn you feet. Grass on average stays about 31 degrees cooler than asphalt and 20 degrees cooler than bare soil, so our feet don’t lie! Watch out for sneaky sand spurs though, we hate them with a passion too. And if they are plaguing your lawn, let us come make them magically disappear. Seriously, there is almost nothing we can’t do. Another cool fact: investing in landscaping can save you money down the road. Strategically placed trees shade your home in the summer, and allow the sun to warm it in the winter. According to the United States Department of Energy, this can save 25% of a household’s energy consumption related to heating and cooling. They also predicted that three trees well placed will save you $100-$250 annually in energy costs. I don’t know about you, but this makes us want to hug some cool trees. Not only can they work for your pocketbook year-round, they can also provide a cool, shady place for your outdoor cookout or other family activity. Up to 25 degrees cooler, in fact. Check out this newly finished landscape we designed and installed. As this landscape matures, the trees, shrubs, and sod will certainly provide ample shade, and cooler Summer temperatures for this homeowner.
There are many other neat things you may be surprised to learn about plants, so keep an eye out for future fun landscaping facts with Hardeman. Until next time, give us a call so we can start designing your cool landscape! *Cue exciting outro music* Source: National Association of Landscape Professionals If you’re like us, the sub-zero temperatures that our northern friends have been experiencing have us really grateful that we live in such a beautiful place. Let’s face it, you can’t beat living in a nearly year-round tropical paradise. If you’re happy to live in Florida, and you know it, raise your hand! 🙋 Or, you can just stop by and see our most recently finished landscape and Turf installation at Green Bench Brewing Co… because that will make you happy too. Green Bench is a neat spot in downtown St. Petersburg, on Baum Avenue North. It was actually the first microbrewery in St. Pete, and has a large indoor tasting area, as well as a 6000 square-foot outdoor biergarten (which is where we worked our Hardeman magic). The brewery was named after the mass amount of green benches that originally lined the streets of St. Pete in the 1900’s. The purpose of these benches was to encourage people to sit, talk, and build community with each other. We thought it was fitting that we could assist Green Bench in preserving that part of old St. Pete’s history by creating a beautiful space that continues to promote community and cheer. Our scope of work in the biergarten included installing 6000 square-feet of artificial turf, tropical Palm Trees, other landscape plants/mulch, and irrigation. The artificial turf installation features an Ultrabase system which is produced locally in Pinellas County. The Ultrabase system increases the drainage ability of the turf and gives it a softer feel. Who doesn't love soft, lush grass that requires zero maintenance? If you're interested in learning more about Ultrabase, click the logo below to visit their website. A little sneak peek of the finished project: Just let us warn you now, kicking back with a drink in this cool new spot will probably have you dreaming about having your own little (or big) slice of backyard paradise. Which is completely achievable with a little help from your friends at Hardeman, by the way! We are shameless. We love landscaping, and we would love to help you build your dream space. Whether it’s replacing some tired shrubs, installing a paver patio, or designing and installing an entire entertaining or event space, we are here for you! Give us a call!

Before: After: Have you seen the construction over at Channelside Bay Plaza recently, and wondered what is happening there? Hardeman Landscape, as well as our sister comapnies, Hardeman Concrete & Masonry, and Site Crafters, are helping create a great new place to hang out in Tampa Bay. Check out the link below to read more about the new Sparkman Warf project! Here in Tampa, landscape lighting systems have to be tough. They have to defy the elements.
Irrigation, fertilizer, insecticides, acid rain, weed whackers, bugs and salt spray all take a toll on the typical landscape lighting system. Salt spray, which may be the most damaging of all, is in the air and is impossible to avoid when you live near the coast. We searched for a product that would perform like we needed it to… But we searched, to no avail. Our criteria were simple, or so we thought. We were unable to find a manufactured product that would not succumb to the elements. Some displayed damage in weeks, others took months, but they all gave way to the elements. What can a fed up homeowner do? We recently came across a new company selling lighting and sound systems and claiming that they could fit the tall bill we had ordered. We have found that Coastal Source landscape lighting products are built with integrity. They have more than 50 years of hands-on industry experience and gave us what we needed to take on the entire landscape lighting market. Real world and laboratory testing gave them a solid understanding of the challenges they had to overcome. They took this as a challenge and created, “a solution that defies the elements.” And we are impressed. As a part of the coastal testing process, they evaluated products from every reputable manufacturer of landscape lights. One of the problems they faced was that all products work, even the cheap ones, for a little while. But then then they fail. it’s not a matter of, “if,” but “when.” You are then forced to make expensive repairs or totally replace a non-functioning system. Customer satisfaction and our reputations suffer. Coastal Source landscape lights are created from the raw material up. The fixtures are designed for superior function and durability. Now you don’t have to replace an entire fixture due to a weak link.
